Sam Shewmaker is one of the guys that started his fighting career in bare-knuckle. ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ made his debut way back at BKFC 1 so it goes without saying, he’s an OG of the game. With names like Chase Sherman, Arnold Adams, Mick Terrill, Bobo O’Bannon and more on his resume, there’s proof that he’s faced the who’s who of the heavyweight division.
Shewmaker is well rounded but really thrives early in fights when his power is at its peak and his cardio is at 100%. He has never finished a fight after the second round but he has won multiple decisions proving that he can outwork his opponent if he doesn’t find their “off button.” The Missouri based fighter has gotten himself into title fights on two occasions in the BKFC but fell short both times despite having a great showing for himself.
It’s hard to say that any fighter on the BKFC roster is more patriotic than Shewmaker. He will always be donning the red, white and blue trunks and rarely goes a month without sharing patriotic images on his social media. The self proclaimed country boy loves hunting, fishing, his family which includes their pets and the Kansas City Chiefs.
*Shewmaker has a big shot at redemption here in his upcoming bout against Josh Burns who knocked him out quickly in round one. The two square up on August 3, in Sturgis, South Dakota.
