Keith "The Rockstar" Richardson didn’t change when he struck gold.
Aside from the well-deserved recognition, Richardson has stayed true to himself since winning the BKFC World Bantamweight Championship in October.
“It’s pretty much business as usual. It’s nice to get a lot more recognition, but aside from that I’m just doing all the things that I was doing before,” the unbeaten Rock Hill, SC fighter says.
“You see some guys get off track when they have a little bit of success. For me, I’ve been in combat sports for a long time, so I’ve always known that this sport will humble you fast. The best thing you can do is keep your head down, stay humble and keep working.”
Richardson is preparing diligently for his first title defense. He’ll look to retain his belt against Alberto “El Indio” Blas in the BKFC 62 Co-Main Event on June 21 in Hollywood, FL, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App.
Richardson and Blas both sport an unblemished 4-0 record in the Squared Circle. All of Blas’ wins have come by stoppage in the first round.
“I want to make this kid fight. He’s hit people in bare knuckle, but he hasn’t been hit in a bare knuckle fight yet. It’s a different experience, and it takes a different type of dog,” Richardson says.
“So far he’s just been a bully; we’ll see what kind of fighter he is.”
While the belt hasn’t changed Richardson, he’s certainly not ready to relinquish his title.
“Definitely not,” he says. “I’m just getting started.”
