Brandon Bushaw can begrudgingly deal with losing, but he can’t stand having a “no contest” at the end of his record.
“It’s worse than losing,” the Myrtle Beach, SC fighter says.
Bushaw’s no contest is the result of his BKFC 42 showdown with Rick Caruso. Bushaw unintentionally struck the back of Caruso’s head, forcing their highly anticipated bout to a premature ending.
“I’ve lost before and it’s OK. Two go in, only one can leave with the win. I’ve won plenty, so I know how to deal with that,” he says. “But a no contest is the weirdest feeling. You can’t feel bad, mad or happy. To be honest, I’ve struggled with that way more than any loss on my record.”
Bushaw has wanted this rematch since the moment BKFC Ring Announcer Jeff Houston proclaimed the result. Finally, he’ll get his wish. Bushaw and Caruso will square off for a second time on Oct. 26 in the Main Event of the BKFC Prospect Series event in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Bushaw is counting down the seconds until fight night.
“I’m going to bring it and put pressure on him. It’s bare knuckle so anything can happen, but I feel very confident in my skill set and where I am right now,” he says.
“I want to make a statement. This one has been sitting with me for a year. I don’t hold grudges – well, maybe a little bit (laughs) – but I hate seeing that 2-0, 1 NC. You’ve got to explain every time where that third number comes from (laughs). I know it won’t take the no contest off my record, but it will feel good to put another one in the win column.”
