It was worth the wait for Chris Camozzi.
After two decades in the fight game, the battle-tested OG finally had a World Championship belt wrapped around his waist Friday at the conclusion of BKFC 67 at the sold-out Denver Coliseum in Camozzi’s hometown of Denver, CO.
Camozzi won the belt with a jaw-dropping, 66-second KO over Sawyer Depee in their matchup for the vacant BKFC World Cruiserweight Title.
“There’s no way that Friday night could’ve gone any better,” he says.
“Fighting for the BKFC World Title in my hometown, and winning it with a clean, clean knockout in just over a minute – I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Camozzi never won a UFC championship during his 19-fight tenure with the organization, so his goal was clear when he signed with BKFC in 2022 – strike gold by any means necessary.
“The belt means so much more to me than just another belt. This is a lifetime of work,” Camozzi says. “I’ve been at this for 20 years now, so it means the world to me to be able to call myself a World Champion. This and earning my black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu are what I’m most proud of in my career.”
Camozzi, 37, admits he probably would’ve retired from fighting if he lost against Depee. Now, he’s eager for his next assignment.
“I haven’t had an opportunity to talk with (BKFC Founder/President David Feldman) yet, but I’m excited to see what he’s got in store for me,” he says.
“I haven’t really thought too much about what’s next, but I’m open to any big fights that are on the table. I’m leaving all options open – I’m just excited.”
