Jared “Captain Deadpool” Warren struck gold at BKFC 62.
After 10 fights in the Squared Circle, Warren officially laid claim to the vacant BKFC World Light-Heavyweight Championship with his unanimous decision victory over JoMi Escoboza on Friday at the sold-out Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.
Warren first entered the BKFC Squared Circle at BKFC 8 in 2019. His goals were modest when he began his bare knuckle career, but the Tampa, FL fighter soon realized that he could have some success in this new, fast-growing sport.
“After the first win, the wheels in my head started turning and I had the realization that I don’t have a good reason not to see how far I could go in this sport if I made a serious push,” Warren says.
“I went back to training full time and really started pushing it to see if I could make it to the top.”
Warren is now 7-2, 1 NC on the strength of three straight victories in the Squared Circle.
Now that the newly crowned champ has seemingly reached the summit of the BKFC world, he’s not done climbing yet.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what might come with the belt. I think it’s going to open a lot of doors and present opportunities that I haven’t even thought about yet,” he says.
“It feels amazing. When I started competing as an amateur 20 years ago, the goal was always to be a pro World Champ because that was the highest level of achievement that I could picture. It took a long time to get here, but it finally happened.”
Warren is open to defending his belt against anybody on the BKFC roster, but he wants his next fight to be against none other than the undefeated “Platinum” Mike Perry, the reigning BKFC King of Violence.
“That one would have to be an early stoppage, in the first or second round,” Warren says when asked for a prediction for a possible showdown with Perry. “He doesn’t backpedal and neither do I, and we both hit really hard, so I don’t think there’s any way we’d see the third round.”
