Jeremy “Pitbull” Smith is pleased to be the No. 2 contender in the BKFC cruiserweight division – but he’s just getting started.
“How do I feel about it? I (expletive) love it,” the South African-born Florida fighter says with a smile.
“But it will mean a whole lot more when I’m the Champion. That’s when my ranking will really mean something.”
At BKFC 66 on Friday, he’ll be looking to stake his claim as the No. 1 contender in the weight class with a victory over Stephen Townsel at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App.
Smith will be watching the Oct. 25 BKFC card intently when Chris Camozzi (2-1) battles Sawyer Depee (5-2) for the vacant BKFC World Cruiserweight Championship at BKFC Denver.
That’s a 50-50 fight, Smith says, but one thing is certain – he’d love a shot at the winner in early 2025. That being said, the veteran combatant knows he needs to take things one step at a time.
“Everything can be taken away so quickly in this sport. My opponent on Friday can eliminate any talk of a title fight with just one punch if it lands on the right spot at the right time,” he says.
“I’m just focusing on what I can control and nothing else.”
