Sonny “The Savage” Smith is still early in his BKFC career, but he’s been fighting his whole life.
“I’m sure most people say that,” the affable Smith says with a laugh, “but I was a street fighter when I was younger. I got into boxing when I was around 16, did that for a number of years, and then ended up joining the military.
“I’ve been on and off boxing my whole life, but I’ve always been scrapping at every stage of my life.”
Smith’s passion for hand-to-hand combat continued while serving in the Armed Forces in his native United Kingdom, where he was champion gloved boxer on the Royal Marines boxing circuit.
Smith put boxing on the back burner while excelling for a number of years as a member of the United Kingdom Special Forces – but he never left the gym.
Smith’s persistence is paying off in his new career. He’ll look to climb to 3-1 in his bare knuckle fighting career when he takes on Drew Stuve in the Main Event of Saturday’s BKFC Prospect Series at River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton, Canada, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App.
Smith has had a special affinity for the fans in Edmonton since making his BKFC debut there in March. That being said, a lifelong dream of his is to perform in “Sin City.”
“Being a BKFC Champion is my biggest goal, but I don’t tend to look that far ahead – that’s dangerous in this sport – but fighting for BKFC in Las Vegas is a dream of mine,” Smith says. “BKFC will be in Vegas – there’s no way it won’t be – and the only way to get on that card will be by being an extremely exciting, established fighter.
“That’s what I’m going to do.”
