Matt Socholotiuk can’t wait to touch down in California.

The weather-tested Canadian is eager to leave Montreal’s snow and sleet behind to soak up the sun in California. But Socholotiuk isn’t taking a vacation. The former University of Waterloo Warriors running back is preparing to clock into the BKFC Squared Circle at the organization’s first event of 2025 on Jan. 18 at the legendary Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App.

“Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to step off the plane, for sure,” Socholotiuk says with a laugh. “But, as always, this is a business trip. I won’t really get to enjoy being there until after I take care of business. I’ll have one day there to enjoy the weather, then it’s back home to the cold (laughs).”

Socholotiuk is focused on returning to Canada with the victory. He’s looking to smash his way to 3-0 with a third straight stoppage in the Squared Circle since his BKFC debut as he takes on Ryan Petersen (1-0) in welterweight action.

“I don’t see this one going past the second round,” he says.

“Once I get his timing down, I’m going to end this one like my other fights — it’s going to be another knockout.”

Socholotiuk has covered a lot of ground in the nine months since his triumphant BKFC debut. He wants to stay just as active in the new year.

“I’d love to fight four times in 2025, no less than three fights,” he says. “As you move up the rankings, the fights get harder, so it’s important to take a bit more time in between each one, but I just love fighting.

“I’d fight every other week if they let me.”
