Sarah Shell isn’t your typical fighter.
The married mother balances her blossoming BKFC career with her career as a certified Naturopathic Medical Doctor in her native Arizona.
“It’s really just a life of work, kids and working out,” says Dr. Shell, as she’s referred to by her multitude of patients. “My husband and I really care about our health, which is part of what makes us really great parents.”
Shell’s passion for fitness is also responsible for her introduction to combat sports. Always down for a new challenge, Shell agreed to her first fight while working at her previous place of employment. When she overheard a fight manager on the phone with one of their clients, the lifelong athlete Shell was all ears.
“A girl had pulled out of her fight that was in 12 days, so they were scrambling to find a fighter. I was just making conversation and trying to calm them down a bit, but the more information that I got, the more interesting it seemed,” Shell recalls.
“Eleven days later, I was fighting on TV and in front of thousands of people at the venue. It turned out to be a draw, but that’s where I fell in love.”
Flash forward a few years and Shell is now 2-0 under the BKFC banner. She earned her most recent win at BKFC Fight Night Omana with a unanimous decision over Crystal Van Wyk at the sold-out Liberty First Arena in Omaha, NE.
Shell is happy with what she’s accomplished in the Squared Circle so far – but she maintains she’s just getting warmed up.
“I want to be the best,” she says.
“I want to be the best in everything I do. I never want to be just mediocre, especially in fighting. I’m here because I believe in myself and I think I can be the best and get to the top.”
