“King” Kai Stewart wants his name atop the BKFC Pound-for-Pound Media Rankings when they’re updated this week.
On Friday, Stewart successfully defended his BKFC World Featherweight Championship for the second time with a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Bryan Duran in the Main Event of BKFC 62 at the sold-out Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.
“Being the homegrown BKFC champ, and being the youngest BKFC champ ever – I’ve had an uphill battle my entire career in this organization and I’ve risen to the occasion each and every time,” says Stewart, who’s now 6-0 in the Squared Circle.
“I know I should be in the Pound-for-Pound Rankings and, whether they give me the No. 1 spot or not, I’ll just keep on proving that I belong at the top of the list.”
Much has been said about the “Mike Perry effect” on BKFC. That’s nothing compared to the impending “King Kai effect,” the surging Great Falls, MT product says.
“I’ve brought something entirely different to this sport. I came into this sport as a wrestler, but I hardly use my clinch anymore; now I’m outboxing my opponents. And, from the fans’ perspective, I’m young, good looking, great on the mic, and I put on ‘Fight of the Night’ every time I step into the Squared Circle,” Stewart says.
“I’m so excited to be on this journey. Just like how people say they wanna be like Conor McGregor, they’re gonna be saying that they wanna be like Kai Stewart.”
All signs point to Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera being the next fighter to challenge Stewart for the BKFC World Featherweight Title. Bring it on, Stewart says.
“I don’t care who I have to fight to prove that I’m the king of BKFC,” he says.
“I’ve really got my feet wet with my striking – I’ve been clinching a lot less – and I believe that Jimmie Rivera will be my first clean knockout in the Squared Circle.”
