Matt Guymon wants all the smoke.

Now that Guymon has his BKFC debut under his belt, the Wichita, KS fighter is keen on jumping into the deep end of the organization’s stacked bantamweight division.

“I want the belt,” Guymon says after his third-round TKO over Jacob Akin at Friday’s BKFC Fight Night Kansas City at the sold-out Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS.

“When I started MMA, I knew I’d never be a champion because I started too late in the sport. But once I saw some people fighting bare knuckle and I got my hands dirty with it, my whole mindset shifted. I want a BKFC World Championship belt around my waist.”

An ideal next opponent, Guymon says, would be the undefeated Ryan Reber, who will challenge Alberto Blas for Blas’ BKFC World Bantamweight Championship in the BKFC 66 Main Event on Sept. 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.

“I’ve watched a couple of (Reber’s) fights. He’s technically strong, he just doesn’t throw as much as I do,” Guymon says. “I threw more punches in the three rounds of my debut than he threw in the five rounds of his last fight. I respect him for getting in the ring, but I think I do more work than anybody he’s fought.”

Guymon knows he has to stack up a number of wins before he finds himself at the top of the bustling 135-pound division, but he’s more than happy to put the work in.

“I’ll be in the gym tonight, working on my cardio. As soon as my hands heal, I want to get right back in there,” he says. “I want to fight again before the end of the year, and I want to work my way up the rankings.”
